Hey there!
It’s been awhile. Cell-cultivated meat finally got a name folks can sort-of agree on. The Food & Drug Administration started issuing approvals in the US market. There’s been movement in Europe, too — first with Aleph Farms in Switzerland and then Cultivated B in Germany. Religious authorities generally agree cell-cultivated meat is kosher and halal. Folks in the industry are still taking on the issue of scaling up. But they are forging ahead, with Uma Valeti today saying Upside Foods has chosen Chicagoland for its 187,000 commercial plant.
All this to say: Wow. So much progress! I love the cell-cultivated meat space, and I will always be down to write interesting stories about the people in it.
But…I am really excited to share that I have a new obsession. It also sits at the intersection of climate change and agriculture, so I think you’ll find it interesting.
I’ve gone down the rabbit hole for grapes, and I invite you to join me as I pour more of my energies into this space.
🍇 Check out Grape Rush (and sign up for the newsletter!) 🍇
As climate change reshapes the landscape of wine, it’s inspiring a quiet revolution in viticultural practices, new grape varietals, and the stories surrounding them. With Grape Rush, I’m seeking to bring these stories into sharper focus, providing coverage of the business, politics, and culture of next generation winemakers and their centuries-old craft.
I think you’ll find the space is just as interesting as cell-cultivated meat…with some cool intersections, too. I’d love for you to be along for the ride with me.
Thanks!
